Okay, now for the fun stuff. I'm going to explain how to install Window Maker 0.53 on a RedHat 5.x-6.0 machine. I honestly couldn't tell you how different this would be with any other distribution, but I would imagine that it's pretty close. After downloading all the source I would recommend untaring it to some temp directory. After you have all the source, you'll need to make a few adjustments. Remember, this is for RedHat. I don't know what would happen if you did these adjustments to any other distribution.
Off to compiling our downloaded source tar balls. First go to the directory where you you untarred libPropList. Next type ./configure && make && make install. Once that's done, you're ready to compile Window Maker. Go to the directory where you untarred it and run ./configure && make && make install. After it compiles run ldconfig. Now you need to setup WindowMaker so that it runs when a given user logs in. This is really easy. The folks at Window Maker have developed a script that takes care of this for you. The name of the script is called /usr/local/bin/wmaker.inst. If you want all users to use WindowMaker, run it from root, and when it asks you what file you want to start WindowMaker from, choose /etc/X11/xinit/Xclients file. Remember that makes it global for all users, which I wouldn't recommend. To do it for a certain user, login as that person and run the script again, but this time when it asks you for that file name again tell it .Xclients. Just be sure you are running the script from within your home directory. That's it. You should be set. When you log in and type startx you should pop into WindowMaker.
Now for tips, tricks, and all things nice.
After you install WindowMaker, you'll notice that it's pretty plain. Here's are a couple links that will help you spice it up.

This only touches on what you can do with Window Maker. It's difficult for me to explain all of this on a web page. Email me
if you have any furthor questions. As I think of things, I'll try to continue to improve this page with some screen shots and stuff.
