1. Start Netscape Communicator.
2. Open the Preferences dialog.
3. Go to the "Roaming Access" pane.
4. Check the "Enable Roaming Access for this profile" checkbox.
5. Enter your MLUG username (remember - it is case sensitive!) and optionally check the "Remember my roaming password" checkbox.
6. Go to the "Server Info" panel.
7. Select the "HTTP Server" radio button.
8. Enter the Roaming URL as
http://mlug.missouri.edu/roams/$USERID
($USERID is a variable Netscape Communicator replaces with the userid entered in the previous pane.9. Go to the "File Selection" pane.
10. Select the files you want to be stored on the Roaming Access server. I would not recommend storing the Java Security or Certificates and Private Keys file on MLUG. Storing the History file on the server may not be very useful and it is a lot of bandwidth (for a modem especially). The default five selections in NS 4.51 are fine for most users.
"You must restart Communicator 4.5 in order for these changes to take effect."
Please email me (see below) if you can't get in; I think I added everyone. Also, email me if [for some reason] you don't want access, and I can get you removed from the access file.
Your password is case sensitive, and is the same (by default, if you've never changed it) as your MLUG login name. You can change your NS Roaming password by going to http://mlug.missouri.edu/roamconf/
(security note: Right now, your password is the same as your MLUG (login) username. Since [due to a bug in the way NS handles roaming profiles, I can't set this to the "secure" part of our server] your password won't travel "encrypted", you should never reset this password to the same password that you use on any other system, especially a login password).
That's all; feel free to email me with any questions, problems, or comments. Also, please take a minute if you can to send me feedback on how it's working for you.
Best regards, John.
