There is also the lack of excitement inherent in Prequils. We know what
will happen, we're just waiting to see if the movie screws it up. I think
Ep II is going to make Ep I look good, as the people in charge of this have
shown themselves to be low enough in quality to use the old cliche scenes.
I garuntee we'll be seeing a major portion of the movie devoted to some
idiot battling his mirror image, which has been in about 5.8 million movies,
video games, TV shows, comic books and other media so far. The only thing
that interests me in the new movies is seeing Palpatine rise to power. This
is given about 5 mins of Ep I and probably won't get much more in Ep II or
III. I liked the idea of a double bladed light saber, but they really
screwed that up by both underplaying its importance, and making it some
bulky POS that was easily cut in half. We also lost the team and destiny
atmosphere of the first three. Star Wars was Princess Leia, Han Solo, Luke
Skywalker, Chewbaka, R2D2 and C3P0. Now we've got a bunch of characters
that are unfamiliar, detached from the idea of destiny, and rather flat.
The only constant is the comedy routine of the droids, which should have
remained the only comedy routine, rather than bringing in Jar Jar..

Subject: Re: [MLUG - DISCUSSION] Star Wars
Having bought the DVD recently, and watched Star Wars I a few times, I think
that the main failing with this movie is that the acting is a little
lackluster. I mean the characters sound convincing and all that, but there
is a
lack of energy. It sounds like they rehearsed it too many times, and the
spontaneity is lost. They had a feature on the DVD - "The Making of Star
Wars
I", and my feeling is that what happened is that the actors got lost inside
all
the special effects.
I think that this is why we never really feel for the characters, or care
what
happens to them.
